Vinton Legion to Hold Steak and Fish Frys

The Legion will be hollding a Steak Fry Saturday, March 27th and a Fish Fry on Friday April 2nd and 9th.   The American Legion Auxilary Hall is located at 105 R Ave. N, Vinton.

Avatar poster ends run at Palace; 'How to Train your Dragon' next on screen

It seems as though we’ve been plagued with an ever-changing movie schedule lately. I’m sorry to report – “Avatar” fell through for the last time. As Tony said – that poster sure had a nice long run. However, apparently it is not in the cards for the James Cameron history-making 3D fantasy epic to play the Palace.

Weekly AA Meeting

The weekly meeting of AA is held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 516 2nd Ave. There are open meetings each Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Non-smoking and handicap accessible. Old Creamery Nature Trail

The Old Creamery Nature Trail is just over 14 miles in length and runs  from Vinton through Garrison to Dysart.  The trail is open for the use  of walkers, runners, bicyclists,  bird watchers and nature  enthusiasts.  The trail base is primarily composed of limestone and we  do our best to keep it mowed and sprayed during the warm weather  months.

Local Coalition Announces Summer Youth Summit

  The Benton County Above the Influence Coalition is proud to announce the receipt of a grant totaling more than $4000 from the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) that will allow the group to produce a youth summit during the summer of 2010. The summit will be youth led and will focus on how alcohol and drugs affect youths’ futures.

BCHS performs 'You Can't Take it with You'

Zaniness ruled onstage at Benton Community High School this past  weekend with their spring production of the classic comedy "You Can't  Take It with You." In this show, the free-spirited Sycamore family  tries to teach the uptight Kirbys that there's more to life than  making money.  Production dates were Friday, March 26, and Saturday,  March 27.
